I recently came across the TED talk video of Hailey Bartholomew who started the 365 Grateful Project . She began the project, back in 2008 where she documented everything she was grateful for, one photograph a day.
In the beginning of 2020, as a family, we too started our gratitude journal. Every evening we sat together to think about our day and document one thing we were grateful for. The strips of paper were then rolled and dropped into a bottle. It went on for a month . But as they say, starting something is easy, but staying invested is not and the plan succumbed to a pre-mature demise.
Finding out one thing everyday to write down in a journal sounded tedious I guess. Hailey’s TED Talk, took me to her website and her project.
She catalogued her gratitude in the form of photographs and published them as a book , 365 Gratefuls. There is a narration which I felt particularly touching.
One day, she was trying to figure out the subject for her daily gratitude photo. “I was looking around the room, and then I saw my husband serving dinner,” she says. “In the corner of my eye, I watched as he put the biggest piece of pie on my plate, and I was like, ‘Whoa’ … And he was doing that every day — he was putting me fully first. But I was not seeing it because I was not looking.”
It got me thinking. If I am to have my own gratitude album, what would I begin it with.
I would start with my home. The feeling of home which not just the walls and ceiling but the comfort and familiarity of being wrapped around with love.
Home is a feeling
On a perch next to you
If we sleep under the stars
Then sky, my ceiling
If we lodge in a shack
The dirt floor my mattress
Make forest our abode
Then trees are my kin
The painted walls and roofs
Will never be my shelter.
My home isn't a place
It is a person
And that is you.
“If the only prayer you said in your whole life was “Thank You” that would suffice.”Meister Eckhart
Gratitude is the highest expression of love. It is a bridge of love. As you feel grateful, you feel good, you become happy and in turn raise your vibrations to high frequency. Probabaly that is why it is said that gratitude multiplies all the blessings that you already have.
